This presentation was part of the 4th Annual Mobile Mental Health Crisis Response Summit
Aug 8, 2023 – Breakout session
After surviving a serious mental health crisis of my own and feeling harms of the traditional mental health system, I knew that I had to follow my conscience and work to make change. As a person that has received crisis support, to working within in crisis response work as a professional, my partner and I developed a model to work towards decolonizing mental health care in America.
Objectives:
- Participants will hear the story of a mental health professional that not only has survived a mental health crisis, but also in turns works within the profession of mental health and crisis response.
- Participants will reflect on ethical obligations of mental health providers in the work of crisis response and treatment, especially for historically marginalized populations.
- Participants will learn about the “”No Insurance Accepted”” model utilized by Creative Kuponya and how community resources are leveraged to fund therapy for historically marginalized populations.
- Healers will understand how working within crisis response impacts their personal day to day lives.
