Orofacial dysfunction can negatively impact individuals across a lifetime (D’Onofrio 2019, Rezaeitalab et al 2014). Understanding function as mental health professionals is important for supporting the basic health foundations of breathing, eating and sleeping. This session will explore mental health from an orofacial myofunctional perspective, review current research and present practical approaches for supporting mental wellbeing.
Objectives:
- Define the term orofacial myofunctional disorder.
- Explain how orofacial rest posture, breathing and chewing affect mood and mental state.
- Identify 3 ways to support mental wellbeing through collaboration.
This summit has been approved for 1 Continuing Education Hour (CEHs) from the MN Board of Social Work. CEP #2248. A certificate will be presented upon completion of this course.
