This presentation was part of the 6th Annual Mobile Mental Health Crisis Response Summit.
Many of us will never truly understand the experience of the clients we work with, especially the fear and confusion that can occur when someone experiences a mental health crisis. Effectively responding to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) in crisis requires a balance of clinical expertise, empathy and de-escalation strategies. This workshop will provide mental health professionals, crisis responders and frontline staff with practical tools to assess psychiatric distress, determine risk factors, and implement evidence-based strategies that prioritize safety and dignity. Through case discussions and interactive learning, attendees will enhance their ability to provide compassionate, trauma-informed crisis care that reduces the need for coercive interventions and improves long-term outcomes for individuals diagnosed with SPMI.
Learning Objectives: Identify Key Indicators of Crisis in SPMI Enhance Clinical Assessment and De-escalation skills Learn Evidence-Based crisis responses & address barriers to intervention
Content Level: Advanced level: For experienced crisis responders diving deep into a topic.
